This week we visit with coach Shelly Lake of Fiv3 Racing. Shelly has coached me for the past three years – from my first 70.3 to the Boston Marathon, to a tremendous performance at last year’s 70.3 World Championships in Chattanooga. And it’s not just me. She’s coached more athletes than I can count to slots at Boston, Kona, and the Ironman 70.3 and ITU Long Course World Championships.
During the conversation, we discuss how a Star Wars movie led to her triathlon career, how to fine-tune winter training and mental toughness, why race simulations can pay big dividends on race day, and how the great Arthur Lydiard influenced her coaching philosophy.
